The Special Envoy of the African Union Chairperson on Women, Peace and Security has followed closely recent tragic developments in Nigeria and wishes to echo the concerns expressed by the Chairperson of the African Commission, His Excellency Moussa Faki Mahamat, and second the call made by the Nigeria Chapter of the African Women Leaders Network (AWLN).

Addis Abeba, 23 October 2020, The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat welcomes the signing of a ceasefire between the parties in Libya following negotiations within the framework of the 5+5 Joint Military Commission in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Chairperson commends the work done by all parties including the United Nations and fellow African countries for their contribution in the mediation efforts that led to this important development.

Five years after the adoption of the Africa Agenda 2063 and its vision for greater African economic and political integration, and taking into consideration that next year marks three decades since the adoption of the Abuja Treaty establishing the African Economic Community, Heads of State and Government from the Regional Economic Communities (RECs) and the Regional Mechanisms (RMs) together with the African Union Commission, held a virtual meeting on 22nd October 2020 to take stock of the progress made in the area of integration and different aspect of development in the continent.

African Union and Estonia, in cooperation with Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg and Poland, with the implementing partners Garage48 and Smart Africa are organizing an online cross-continental hackathon “EU-Africa: The Post Crisis Journey” on 10-13 December 2020.
