BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Mapping Antimicrobial Resistance and Antimicrobial Use Partnership (MAAP) is a consortium the that brings together a unique combination of technical expertise, strategic coordination and political leadership to increase availability of analyzable antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and antimicrobial use (AMU) data from different parts of Africa. In the next 24 months, MAAP is planning to retrieve retrospective AMR and AMU data in 12 countries (with a potential to extend to three or four more countries), resulting in increased volume of usable AMR and AMU data and more insight into health system gaps preventing the establishment of AMR surveillance systems. The results will guide improvement of country capacity to collect and use data, raise awareness, and conduct advocacy and policy to address AMR and AMU challenges at the country and regional levels. This workshop is to engage with Member States to understand their needs and develop an implementation plan that align with the regional and national priorities.

Journalists are invited to attend and cover the opening ceremony at the African Union Headquarters on Thursday 4 April 2019 at 9:00 a.m.
