The Chairperson of the African Union Commission expresses solidarity with Member States affected by floods

Addis Ababa, 10 September 2020. The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E Moussa Faki Mahamat, expresses his full solidarity and extends his condolences to the governments and peoples of Member States affected by devastating flooding which have resulted in lives lost, massive displacement, diminished livelihoods and destruction of property. This humanitarian catastrophe has been pronounced in Sudan, Burkina Faso, Niger, Senegal, Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroun, Chad and Mauritania.

The Chairperson is particularly mindful that member States are confronted with humanitarian challenge while also battling the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Chairperson re-affirms the commitment of the Commission to support Member States in their early recovery strategies and calls on the international community to join efforts to support the affected Member States.
