A highly preliminary population genetic analyses of 103 SARS-CoV-2 genomes indicates that the viruses could have evolved into two major types (designated L and S) and that the L type (newer and more aggressive) initially was more prevalent, but its frequency decreased after the end of January as more severe selective pressure was placed on it.
