AUC Chairperson welcomes the signing of peace deal in Mozambique

Addis Ababa, 2 August 2019: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat welcomes the signing of a Peace Agreement between the President of the Republic of Mozambique, H. E. Filipe Nyusi and the Leader of the opposition party RENAMO, Mr. Ossufo Momade, to bring an end to armed hostilities between government forces and the armed wing of RENAMO, as a historic milestone towards Silencing the Guns in Mozambique.

The Chairperson calls on all national stakeholders to maintain the positive momentum and redouble their efforts towards durable and sustainable peace, reconciliation and stability in the country.

The Chairperson also reiterated the AU's continued commitment to support the peace process as well as the government's efforts towards achieving sustainable socio-economic development in the country.
