AFRICAN UNION SUPPORT TO EBOLA OUTBREAK IN WEST AFRICA (ASEOWA) TEAM ARRIVES IN MONROVIA

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – 20 September 2014: The first team deployed by the African Union Commission as part of their spirited effort in combating the deadly Ebola outbreak in West Africa, has arrived in Monrovia, Liberia. The team arrived at the Monrovia airport around 1:30 am local time in Liberia on 20th September, 2014. The team comprising of both medical and non-medical support personnel are expected to swing into action providing support to the Liberian government in curbing the menace of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).
Speaking to them shortly before their departure to their hotel, the deputy chief of Protocol at the Liberian ministry of Foreign affairs appreciated the willingness of the team and encouraged them in the mission to defeat what he called “the Ebola war”.
Re-deployments to different counties in Liberia are expected to commence soon.
