The Topping out Ceremony of the Service Integrated Center Project

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, April 25, 2017: In another monumental achievement in the relationship between the African Union and China with the objective of enhancing the service efficiency of the African Union and following the completion of the last beam of the AU Service Integrated Center building, a special ceremony was organized by Anhui Foreign Economic Construction Company (AFECC), China.
The ceremony was attended by the African Union Commission’s Deputy Chairperson H.E.Thomas Kwesi Quartey, H.E. Mr. Kuang Weilin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to the African Union, and H.E. Amb. Albert Muchanga, AUC Commissioner for Trade and Industry among other senior staff from AUC as well as from Anhui Construction Company.

The Deputy Chairperson on behalf of H. E. Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat, AUC Chairperson welcomed H.E. Ambassador Kuang Wellin, Head of Permanent Mission of China to the African Union, AU Commissioners present and other invitees to the program and expressed African’s Union satisfaction with the growing partnership between Africa and China in multiple areas.
H.E.Thomas Kwesi Quartey further applauded China for their continuous support to AU’s projects in demonstration of special friendship, solidarity and prosperity with the people of Africa.
The AUC Deputy Chairperson underscored the AU leadership’s appreciation to the Government of China for its continuous support of the AU in its institutional capacity building programme, “China continues to support Africa, helping in bringing new dimensions to globalization and new strategic options. We are also celebrating what China means to the rest of the world: stability and respect to the people” he added. Ambassador Quartey thanked the Chinese project management team for their commitment and hard work.
From his side H.E. Ambassador Kuang Wellin underlined the significance of the ceremony marking the completion of the last beam of the building, showing that it is the half way to completion of the project.
The project manager of AFECC expressed his company’s commitment to accomplish the latest project with quality and deliver it as per the schedule.
The Integrated Service Center Project is a multi-storey building consisting of 3 floors and a mezzanine with total area 16170.74㎡.
The main functions of the project are staff cafeteria, the accreditation centre, the archive centre, delegates/ staff dining areas; African Union Commission (AUC) Stores, exhibition hall, the printing centre, main storage, equipment rooms, underground tunnel, underground courtyard and landscape water pool, entrance squares and parking area. The works started on September 8th 2016. The main structure was successfully completed on April 19th 2017.
