Addis Ababa, Ethiopia –13 March 2017: The outgoing Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, H.E. Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, sends her deepest condolences to the government and people of the Federal Democratic Republic Ethiopia following a landslide which claimed about 50 lives on Sunday, 12 March 2017.

The landslide which claimed the lives of 46 people took place at a dumping site in the outskirts of Addis Ababa, burring make shift homes and concrete buildings.

The outgoing Chairperson of the AU Commission sends her heart-felt condolences to the bereaved families. She encourages residents to remain calm as the government retrieves people still buried in the garbage landslide.

The African Union Commission stands in solidarity with the Capital of Africa (Ethiopia) during this sad time.
