Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 31 January 2016: The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the of New Partnership for Africa’s Development NEPAD Agency Dr. Ibrahim Mayaki addressed the press on 29 January, 2016 at the African Union Commission (AUC), Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He presented the outcome of the 34th NEPAD Heads of State and Government Orientation Committee (HSGOC) meeting. The NEPAD HSGOC was chaired by H.E. Macky Sall, President of the Republic of Senegal and Chairperson of the HSGOC, in the presence of H.E Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC).
Dr. Mayaki gave the strategic orientations to the NEPAD Agency. He said “the NEPAD Agency has been integrated into the African Union so our interventions are done through and under a harmonized process with what the African Union Commission is doing”.
The NEPAD CEO underlined that, on the agenda meeting there were two issues tackled; the first issue was Infrastructure addressed in the presentation by H.E. President Jacob Zuma, the presidential Infrastructure Champion Initiative (PICI), which is a fast tracker in the Africa Union Framework on Infrastructure Development and secondly, key Issues revolved around migration, youth, employment and skills. “These two issues are at the centre of the challenges of Africa’s development today”, he noted. He added that, these are pertinent issues that affect the continent and require immediate response.
