Chairperson receives President of Assembly of States Parties to Rome Statute

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Dr. Jean Ping, received today, Tuesday, 25 January 2011, in his office at AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ambassador Christian Wenaweser, President of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute.  

Dr. Ping and Ambassador Weneweser discussed issues of mutual interest to the International Criminal Court and the African Union, in particular the evolving situations in some African countries.

The Chairperson reiterated the African Union’s commitment to fighting impunity and both interlocutors stressed the need for continued dialogue between the AU and the ICC.

Ambassador Wenewaser also briefed the Chairperson on the search process by the Assembly to identify a new Prosecutor for a term of office beginning in June 2012.
