AUC Youth Development Division Hosts the Packard Foundation

Addis Ababa, 17 August 2016: The AUC division of Human Resources and Youth Development hosted senior representatives from the David and Lucille Packard Foundation. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the program, ‘Strengthening coordination to increase access to Sexual Reproductive Health Services and Rights (SRHR) for young people in Africa’ which the David and Lucille Packard Foundation has been supporting over the past 2 years and being implemented by the Human resources and Youth Division together with the International Planned Parenthood Federation African Region (IPPFAR). In addition the meeting was for the Packard foundation to get an overview of the youth development division’s framework and strategic approaches and also to reflect on major areas of collaboration between the two, particularly on the plans for 2017 themed, “Harnessing the Demographic Dividend through investments in Youth” by the 26th Ordinary summit of African Union Heads of State and Government.

Ms. Prudence Ngwenya, Head of Human Resources and Youth Development Division spoke of how the division is aligning its work to the 2017 theme and Mr. Kokou Djagadou, the Project Officer, gave a presentation on the progress of the project. The David and Lucille Packard foundation Director of Population and Reproductive Health Program Ms. Tamara Kreinin, congratulated the division on the work it has done in SRHR. The project, ‘Strengthening coordination to increase access to Sexual Reproductive Health Services and Rights (SRHR) for young people in Africa’ was launched in September 2014 for an initial period of two years.
