Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – 6 May 2017: The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, has arrived in Kigali, Rwanda for a Consultative meeting taking place on 7 May 2017. The meet was convened by President Paul Kagame of Rwanda, who has been mandated by the Assembly to lead the institutional reforms process of the African Union.

The Chairperson of the AU Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat and President Paul Kagame will convene with members of the Permanent Representative Council (PRC) and the Executive Council to discuss the implementation of the AU reforms.

It should be recalled that President Kagame presented a report on proposed reforms that would guide the establishment of a governance system capable of addressing challenges facing the AU at the 28th Ordinary African Union Heads of State and Government Summit in January 2017. President Kagame was assigned by Heads of State and Government to come up with reform proposals for the AU as part of transforming it into a self-reliant continental body by 2018.

H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat continues to follow up on the progress of Summit decisions and works hand in hand with heads of state and government towards the Africa We Want.
