Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – 23 May 2017: H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, extends his most sincere condolences to the families of those who died in last night's bombing in Manchester, the United Kingdom.

"I strongly condemn this senseless act of violence and loss of life, this time in Manchester,” said H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat.

The Chairperson also extended his wishes of quick recovery to those who sustained injuries.

"Africa stands with the people and government of the United Kingdom in reaffirming our solidarity with them during this difficult time,” the AU Commission Chairperson said. “A people united against fear and terror, can never be divided,” he noted.

The Chairperson of the Commission appeals to the international community to renew its commitment to defeat terrorist groups and stresses the urgency of a coordinated response, in view of the continued threat that terrorism poses to peace and security around the world.
