        Body

Mbanga, Cameroon 23 July 2019: The Moungo Development Committee (CODEMO), as part of its missions to build the capacity of Moungo’s youth and to support local development initiatives, has joined forces with the African Union Commission as part of the 1 million by 2021 initiative and the African Institute of Computer Science (IAI) through its flagship programme ‘’Operation MIEJF 2035’’ to organize a training session for 200 young people on digital skills and entrepreneurship in Mbanga, Cameroon.

This project aims to reduce digital illiteracy in the Department of Moungo by introducing a large number of youth and women, to computer tools and entrepreneurial techniques.

The 3 weeks training that was organised from 01 July 2019 to 19 July 2019 focused on two primary components; ICT training including Computer Graphics and Web Development and entrepreneurship initiative.

At the closing ceremony of the training H.E. Prof. Sarah Anyang Agbor, Commissioner for Human Resources, Science and Technology emphasized that ‘’when we expose young people to these skills they are able to become self-sufficient and become job creators rather than job seekers, leading to them creating their own employment opportunities’’. ‘’It is integral that youth from the rural areas are not left behind, they must move forward and be capacitated for the journey to a prosperous Africa. Africa is ours and the future is Africa’’, H.E. Prof. Sarah added.

CODEMO wants to support young people and women in the creation of income-generating activities whilst encouraging the creation of wealth by young people through the resources available in their environment.

The organizers of the Moungo Development Committee stated that, ‘’the training will have far reaching effects on the community participants as they have already expressed satisfaction in the web designing skills, entrepreneurial skills and social skills that they have acquired during the training’’.

Through the training that took place, young people and women from the Mbanga community have benefited in gaining knowledge and there are high hopes that the training has encouraged young people and women in rural areas to be more entrepreneurial through the skills that they have been taught at the training.
