STATEMENT OF THE CHAIRPERSON OF THE COMMISSION OF THE AFRICAN UNION

Addis Ababa, 27 October 2017: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, today received Ms Bintou Keita, the incoming United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations. Ms Keita was appointed to the post on 19 September 2017, and succeeds Mr El-Ghassim Wane from Mauritania. Prior to this new appointment, she served as Deputy Joint Special Representative for the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID).

The Chairperson of the Commission congratulated Ms. Keita on her appointment and commended her dedication and invaluable contribution to the work of UNAMID. He expressed his conviction that her rich professional experience will be a tremendous asset to the partnership between the African Union and the United Nations. He wishes her success in the discharge of her new responsibilities
