Spouses of African Ambassadors in Addis Ababa, Donate Material Support to Charity Homes
Addis Ababa 15 March 2011- Two charity organisations in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 15 March 2011, received humanitarian support from the African Ambassador’s Spouses Group (AASG) in Addis Ababa, consisting of foodstuff, money, stationeries, blankets and different utensils among others. The two charity organizations are: Hannah Orphanage Home (HOH) and Missionary Sisters of the Holy Rosary.
Speaking during the donation handing over ceremony, Mrs. Rachel Muchanga, president of the African Ambassador’s Spouses society said, the objective of the Group is to assist the needy and support efforts by the charity organisations aimed at improving the living condition of the less privilege, while empowering the women livelihood . She thanked the African Union for their support to the humanitarian activities of the AASG and mostly “The Directorate of Information and Communication of the African Union Commission has always stood by our side to help disseminate and sensitise the population on the work of the AASG”.
Referring to the HOH, Mrs. Muchanga said “the Orphanage is a very good establishment; it has saved a lot of children and has worked hard to ensure normal child hood for less privileged children in Addis Ababa.” According to the director of the Orphanage, Mrs. Hanna Teshome, the gifts donated by the AASG are of great importance as it will improve the services rendered by the Orphanage to meet the needs of the children. We sponsor the education of these children, some of whom have graduated from university and are now living on their own”,she underlined.
The AASG’s next stop was at the Missionary Sisters of the Holy Rosary, where the women made donation in cash to support the program put in place by the manager of the Missionary, Sister Selistina Nadinine. “This humanitarian institution started four years ago with the vision of empowering the needy, especially women by giving them loans to run petty trades and train them on how to manage their businesses”, Sister Selestina explained, adding that, this initiative was encouraged by H.E Mr. Girma W/Giorgis, President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, who, after visiting the place, donated a land to expand the institution. She expressed satisfaction to the financial support given by the AASG which she said will create more jobs for the idle and needy women.
The African Ambassador’s Spouses Group was founded in 1990. It comprises of spouses of African Ambassadors and AU Commissioners.
