Abuja, 31 March 2015: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma has been following closely the electoral process in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, through the AU Elections Observation Mission led by Prof. Amos Sawyer and Prof. Ibrahima Fall working together with other African leaders, which culminated in the polling that took place on 28 and 29 March 2015.

The Chairperson congratulates the Nigerian people for their patience and peaceful conduct throughout this process, and for ensuring that sporadic incidents that took place did not derail peace and tranquillity in the country.

The Chairperson also congratulates the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for running peaceful and successful polls in spite of several challenges. She expresses her appreciation to Nigerian and other stakeholders for their support to INEC which allowed the Nigerian people to exercise their civic duty.

The Chairperson calls on all the leaders and the people of Nigeria to respond peacefully to the announcement of results and to preserve calm and the peaceful environment that has so far prevailed.
