Honorable Ministers members of the Board of the Africa CDC
HE the Commissioner for Political Affairs,
Distinguished Representatives of the African Union Commission,
Esteemed delegates, Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is my singular honor and privilege to address this First Meeting of the Africa CDC Governing Board scheduled to take place in Addis Ababa from 09 – 11 May 2016. First and foremost, allow me, on behalf of the African Union Commission, to express my sincere thanks and profound appreciation to you, Honorable Ministers and all the Delegates for making this possible, knowing how tight might be your schedule in this period. I wish also to convey to you the warm greetings from the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma who sent her best wishes for a successful and productive meeting.

Excellences, Honorable Ministers
Allow me also to seize this single opportunity to congratulate you once again for your nomination as a member of the Governing Board of the Africa CDC. As you know, the role of this Board is very important in the implementation of the Africa CDC and key decisions from this First meeting of the Board will definitely help to accelerate the implementation of the first phase while significant progress has been made in the implementation of the Africa CDC.

As part of our deliberations among others, are the Appointment of the Director of the Africa CDC in line with Article 19(3) of the Statute and the Designation of the proposed Regional Collaborating Centres of the Africa CDC. These two aspects are essential for the takeoff our Africa CDC and we will rely on your wisdom, your collaboration and support to move forward the agenda of the Africa CDC.

Honorable Ministers, distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen,
The African Union commission continues to be proud of the collaboration with the AU Member States. The challenges for Health Development in Africa are huge. But together, we can change the trends.
On theses notes, let me once again welcome you and wish us fruitful deliberations for this First Meeting of the Africa CDC Governing Board.
