Kigali, Rwanda 11 July 2016 - As the African Union Summit continues with its daily programs at the Kigali Convention Centre (KCC), the Rwandan business community is also cashing in with various locally made products exhibited at the summit venue.

After the hectic closed sessions at the Summit, delegates can find an opportunity to move around the mini-exhibition organized by the Private sector with the intentions of facilitating participants to familiarize themselves with some African made products, read about Rwandan history as well as understanding the investment opportunities in the country.

Products from different sectors like transport, hospitality, arts and designs, tourism are all represented all aimed at creating a virtuous atmosphere at the Summit.

The creative fashion attires reflecting the actual African cultures are available in the small organized exhibition and the organizers believe that the event is aimed at showcasing what Rwanda can offer to the entire world.

“We decided to have the side social events to facilitate the AU summit delegates enjoy the summit by buying the African attires, reading about our country and showcasing what we can produce in the country ,”Said Pelagie Mbabazi the head of research and policy at Rwanda Private Sector Federation.

Different books written by various experienced authors about Rwandan are displayed at the stands inform of the plenary hall in the lobby of the KCC. More write-ups on the current economic situation in Rwanda and its available investment opportunities in the country are also available for Africa Union Summit delegates to read.

“ Some people still have different view about Rwanda and when you mention the country someone will think about the 1994 genocide against Tutsi so we are providing this content for the world to read and understand how the country has changed tremendously in all areas including economy, political and social aspects,” added Mbabazi the PSF official.

Tourism is the largest source of foreign exchange earnings in Rwanda and in fact it has been growing at a rate of 25 percent every year from 2013 and the sector is a contributor to the national export strategy.

It’s in this regards that Rwanda Tours and Travel Associations (RTTA) a tourism platform in the country has actually organized a travel tour for African Union summit delegates including the media representatives who came to cover the Summit to learn more about the country’s tourist’s attractions.

“We have identified some good attractions around Kigali and outside the city for the delegates who are interested in learning more about our country,” Gertrude Majyambere the RTTA director said.

The delegates will also have a chance to relish the fashion show events organized at the sideline of the Summit. The principle objective of the Fashion Show for the “Made in Rwanda designs” is to encourage Rwandans and Africans to give economic priority to the locally produced clothes to enhance the development of the country as well as sustain favorable competition in the local, regional and international market.
The first phase of the show will run from 13th -14th July 2016 and will be made up of two activities including a Pop-up shop on the 12th July that will run throughout the fashion show and branding campaign of the selected designs to attract both local and international markets.
