MEDIA ADVISORY

A Workshop to Mark Ten Years of African Union Post-conflict Reconstruction and Development Policy Implementation: A Reflection on Progress, Opportunities and Challenges

Invitation to representatives of the media

What:

The Commission of the African Union (AU) will hold a Workshop to mark ten years since the adoption of the AU Post-conflict Reconstruction and Development (PCRD) Policy in Banjul, The Gambia, in 2006.

When:

Wednesday 19 October 2016, Opening Ceremony – 10.00am

Where:

African Union Headquarters, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Committee Room 3, New AU Conference Complex

Who:

The workshop will bring together representatives of the AU Commission, Member States, Regional Economic Communities, AU Partners, Civil Society Organisations, Independent Experts and the Media.

Why:

Ten years after its establishment, the AU PCRD policy framework is embedded within a wider context of the AU’s support to Africa’s strategic vision. The AU’s ad hoc experience in different situations has highlighted the need to address PCRD as part of a holistic process, with activities ranging from conflict prevention, management and resolution, peace support operations, reconciliation, reconstruction and beyond.

It is in this context that AUC wishes to commemorate, together with its partners, the tenth year of the establishment of the PCRD policy, by convening organizations and personalities devoted to advance PCRD to jointly look back, review what has been achieved and what remains to do. A key outcome of the workshop is a Five-Year AU PCRD action plan.
