DEPLOYMENT OF THE AFFRICAN UNION ELECTION OBSERVATION MISSION TO THE PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS IN THE REPUBLIC OF RWANDA

Invitations to the Media Representatives

What : The African Union Election Observation Mission will deploy its short term
observers to the field.

When : 1st September at 09:30 am.

Where : The observers will depart from Serena Hotel. Kigali. Rwanda

Who : H.E Mrs. Aichatou Mindaoudou Souleymane, former Minister of Foreign
Affairs of the Republic of Niger Head of the Mission will see off the
Observers.

Background Information:

The Africa Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) has a mandate to observe the 2-4 September 2018 Parliamentary Elections in conformity with the relevant provisions of the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance, which entered into force on 15 February 2012.
The Charter is intended to enhance electoral processes in Africa, strengthen electoral institutions and the conduct of fair, free, and transparent elections. The AUEOM’s mandate is further strengthened by the AU/OAU Declaration on the Principles Governing Democratic Elections in Africa (AHG/Decl.1 (XXXVIII)), adopted by the Assembly of the African Union in July 2002; the African Union Guidelines for Elections Observation and Monitoring Missions; relevant international instruments governing elections observation; and the Constitution as well as the laws of the Republic of Rwanda.

Journalists are invited to cover the deployment of the observers.
