The African Union Commission presents its compliments to the Permanent Missions of Non-African States and the International Organizations accredited to the African Union and has the honour to inform them about the invitations to the 34th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union scheduled for 06 and 07 February 2021.

In this regard, the Commission wishes to recall that the Assembly, at its TwentyEight (28th) Ordinary Session held on 30 and 31 January 2017, adopted Decision Assembly/AU/Dec.635 (XXVIII) which stipulates as follows: "External parties shall only be invited to Summits on an exceptional basis and for a specific purpose determined by the interests of the African Union".

However, considering the present circumstances pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic, Member States have decided that the said session will be held online with a streamlined agenda and limited participation, preceded by virtual meetings of the 38th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council on 03 - 04 February 2021 and the 34th Ordinary Session of the Assembly scheduled on 6 and 7 February 2021. In view of the above, the Commission would like to inform the Permanent Missions of Non-African States and International Organizations accredited to the AU that there will not be invitees to the Opening Sessions of the Executive Council and the Assembly for the above said Summit.

The African Union Commission avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Permanent Missions of Non-African States and the International Organizations accredited to the African Union, the assurances of its highest consideration
