51st Ordinary Session of the Permanent Representative Committee to kick off on 12 January 2026

Invitation to the Representatives of the Media

WHAT:           The 51st Ordinary Session of the Permanent Representatives’ Committee (PRC) of the African Union (AU). The meeting will bring together Permanent Representatives (Ambassadors) of Member States accredited to the African Union, as well as officials of the African Union Commission (AUC) and AU Organs to deliberate on their agenda items.

Journalists are invited to cover the opening session of the PRC.

Media accreditation is required and can be completed online via the official African Union accreditation portal.

 

WHEN:           12th  to 30th  January 2026

TIME:                         10:00 hr – 13:00hr EAT

WHERE:        African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

VENUE:         Mandela Conference Hall.

The Session will consider strategic and institutional reports, including:

  • Implementation of the AU Theme of the Year 2025: Justice for Africans and Afro-descendants through Reparations
  • The Roadmap for the AU Theme of the Year 2026 on Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation
  • Reports on financing for infrastructure development, humanitarian affairs, free movement of people, and health
  • Reports on the activities of PRC Sub-Committees
  • Reports of the Specialized Technical Committees (STCs)
  • Reports from the African Union Commission, other AU Organs, and Specialized Agencies

The Session will also consider agenda items tabled by Member States. Draft decisions will be transmitted to the Executive Council for review and approval and thereafter submitted to the Assembly of Heads of State and Government for final consideration and adoption.

  • The 48th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council: 11–12 February 2026
  • The 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government: 14–15 February 2026
