African Union to Convene the 2nd Africa Urban Forum (AUF2) To Prepare for Continent’s Common Position on Housing and Human Settlements at the 13th World Urban Forum
From 8th to 10th April 2026, the African Union will convene the Second Africa Urban Forum (AUF 2), which will be hosted by the Government of Kenya in Nairobi, under the theme “Adequate Housing for All - Advancing Socio-Economic and Environmental Transformation Towards the Realization of Agenda 2063.”
In preparation for the Thirteenth Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) to be held in Azerbaijan in May, the AUF2 will consolidate Africa’s common position on housing and human settlements, while showcasing locally led solutions, innovations, and partnerships.
AUF2 will advance political commitment, strengthen policy coherence, and promote investment pathways for affordable, inclusive, and resilient housing as a driver of Africa’s economic transformation.
The Africa Urban Forum (AUF) is a continental platform established by the African Union to facilitate dialogue and coordination on sustainable urbanisation and human settlements in Africa. It brings together political leaders, policymakers, local and regional governments, development partners, the private sector, academia, civil society, and other relevant stakeholders to discuss Africa’s urban challenges and opportunities.
AUF provides a forum for shaping a shared urban agenda, promoting policy coherence, and strengthening institutional collaboration among the 55 AU Member States. It enables the exchange of knowledge, experiences, best practices, and innovations that support sustainable urban development across the continent.
The First Africa Urban Forum (AUF1) was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in 2024. AUF2 will build on the outcomes of AUF1 and further strengthen dialogue and coordination on Africa’s urban development priorities.
UN-Habitat and the UN Economic Commission for Africa, UNECA are providing technical support for AUF2.
