H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, the Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission this afternoon bade farewell to H.E. Dr. Robert Afriyie, Ambassador of #Ghana to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU & the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.

The Chairperson expressed his appreciation to Ambassador Afriyie for his active & constructive engagement in the work of the Union, as well as for Ghana’s longstanding commitment to Pan-Africanism, democratic governance, & continental integration. He further commended Ghana’s important contribution to advancing Africa’s voice & global standing, including its advocacy on issues of historical justice, reparatory justice, & the rights & dignity of Africans & people of African descent, notably through the recent United Nations General Assembly resolution on reparations.

Ambassador Afriyie, in turn, expressed appreciation for Chairperson Youssouf’s principled & forward-looking leadership on continental and global matters, while reaffirming the Government of Ghana’s continued support for his mandate & for the objectives and priorities of the African Union.

The Chairperson wished Ambassador Afriyie every success in his future endeavours and expressed his readiness to continue working closely with Ghana & with his successor in further advancing the shared aspirations of the continent.
