The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma and the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, H.E. Christopher Ross met on 25 September 2013 in the margins of the 68th UN General Assembly Meeting.

The meeting followed an earlier meeting between the AUC Chairperson, Dr. Dlamini Zuma and UN Secretary-General H.E. Ban Ki-moon during which Western Sahara was raised, with the AU expressed interest in seeing the matter being resolved once and for all.

H.E. Christopher Ross briefed Dr. Dlamini Zuma on the status of the 38-year old conflict, highlighting other issues such as human rights abuse and mutual violation of agreements. He expressed the need for the profile of the case to be raised even further. Consultations will continue following the UN’s call for a political solution.
