Press Release Nº281/2014
AUC Chairperson, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma to Engage the Social Media

Addis Ababa, 17 October 2014 – Following a series of Pre-Forum consultations to the 2014 High Level Dialogue on Democracy, Human Rights and Governance with civil society, youth and women across Africa, the African Union Commission Chairperson, H.E Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma will be interacting on Live TwitterChat, on Monday 20th October 2014 on the theme, #TheAfricaWeWant at 14.30hrs EAT (GMT +3).

This year’s High Level Dialogue on Democracy, Human Rights and Governance in Africa (DGTrends) scheduled for 30-31 October 2014 in Dakar, Senegal, on theme “Silencing the Guns: Strengthening Governance to Prevent, Manage and Resolve Conflicts in Africa”.

The choice and focus of this year’s theme is in response to the AU Assembly 50th Anniversary Solemn Declaration adopted by the 21st Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of States and Governments on 26th May 2013, during which all African leaders committed to ending “all wars in Africa by 2020.” This aspirational and equally inspirational milestone for silencing the guns and ending all conflicts in Africa is within the framework of the AU Agenda 2063 and the African Common Position on Post 2015 Development Agenda.

The Annual High Level Dialogue convened by AGA is intended to provide a frank, open and inclusive space for AU Member States and African Union (AU) organs and institutions, Regional Economic Communities, African citizens, think tanks, trade unions, religious organisations, media, civil society, private sector, members of the academia, philanthropists and development partners to engage and share comparable experiences and lessons on how to enhance governance, consolidate democracy, and foster the realization of human and peoples’ rights on the continent.

The Annual DGTrends is convened under the auspices of the African Governance Architecture and Platform of the African Union.
