Addis Ababa, 10 October 2018: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, arrived today in Yerevan, Armenia, to take part in the 17th Summit of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF), on 11 and 12 October 2018. The Chairperson was invited by the Armenian authorities.

The participation of the Chairperson of the Commission at this Summit is also part of the follow-up to the decision by the African Union Summit held in Nouakchott on 1 and 2 July 2018, expressing the full support of AU Member States to the candidacy of Louise Mushikiwabo, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Rwanda, for the post of the OIF Secretary-General. In line with this decision, the Commission has taken a number of initiatives to mobilize the widest possible support for the African candidacy.

During the OIF Summit, the Chairperson of the Commission will also take the opportunity to consult with African and other leaders on issues related to the African agenda.
