        Background:

The African Games are a continental multi-sport event held every four years owned by the African Union and jointly organized with, the Association of National Olympic Committees of African, (ANOCA) and the African Sports Confederation (AASC). The competing nations to the AAG are from the African continent and affiliated to the Supreme Council for Sport in Africa (SCSA).

The African Games contribute to the promotion of the Olympic spirit and stand as a major rendez-vous for African athletes. These Games are a milestone in the preparation of the Olympic Games as they are an opportunity for the continent’s athletes to express their potential.

Africa Union (AU) being the owners of the Games, the Pan-African Multi-disciplinary sport event participated by all AU Member States presents a unique platform for the commission to promote key au development messages, especially in line with the AU theme of the year on Migration.

This important continental event will be marked by the participation of more than 6,000 athletes competing in 26 sports disciplines, 17 of which are qualifying to the Olympic Games of Tokyo 2020.
