AU Assembly makes key decisions to guide the African Union’s work in 2021

During the 34th Assembly of the African Union held virtually from the 6th to the 7th of February, Heads of State and Government made key decisions to guide the African Union’s work in 2021.

Key amongst these were the launch of the theme of the year for 2021, appointments of the Chairperson of the Union and the leadership of the AU Commission, the continental response to COVID19, institutional reform of the AU, the scale of assessment and contributions to the Union budget, the AU wide quota system, rules of the Assembly and statute of the Commission, structures of AU specialised offices and a proposal to decree 2021-2030 as the Decade of African Roots and Diasporas.

They also made decisions on domestic health financing, and the decolonisation of Mauritius.
