INVITATION TO THE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE MEDIA

 

What:             Opening Ceremony of the 4th Ordinary Session of the Specialized Technical Committee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Water and Environment (ARDWE).

 

This would include the following:

  • Welcome remarks by H.E. Ambassador Josefa Sacko,  AUC Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment;
  • Opening Remarks: Ms Thoko Didiza; South Africa Minister for Minister for Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural  and   Chair of the ARDWE - STC Bureau;
  • Deliberations on Report on the Implementation of the recommendations of the 3rd STC Including the presentation of the ToRs of Fisheries Subcommittee; and
  • Discussions on Emerging issues:  (i). Africa common Position on 2021 UN Food Systems Summit (UNFSS) (ii). Green Recovery strategy (iii).  COVID- 19 responses

Who:              The Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy, and Sustainable Environment (DARBE), AU Commission, which is responsible for the Agriculture, Rural Development, Water and Environment thematic area is organizing the meeting.

How:              The STC on Agriculture, Rural Development, Water and Environment is composed of ministers and senior officials of member states responsible for those portfolios in their respective countries. As part of its statutory responsibility, the committee meets biennially to consider and recommend to the Executive Council, for adoption and implementation in the continent and by member states, several key policy and operational documents in the fields of agriculture, rural development, water and environment.                    

                     The five day programme would involve a plenary on the first day, a three-day 13th- 15th December 2021 meeting of Senior Officials/Experts of member states to examine the various documents and prepare their report to the Ministers endorsement and further action. The Ministerial segment would be held from 16th to 17th December 2021.
