On March 18, 2025, the African Union (AU), in collaboration with its Permanent Mission to the United Nations, hosted a Talent Engagement Session in New York. The event, held alongside the 69th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69), aimed to sensitize the African diaspora and professionals from least represented AU member states on career opportunities within the AU.

Empowering Diversity, Transforming Futures

The session highlighted the AU’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, offering insights into career pathways, application processes, and leadership growth opportunities.
Director Prudence Ngwenya shared her inspiring journey—from joining the AU as a young professional in 2012 to now leading the Women, Gender, and Youth Directorate. She highlighted the AU’s potential for career development and upward mobility, emphasizing that it is a platform where individuals can truly impact Africa’s future.

Director Nadège Tandu, a former member of the diaspora, spoke of her return to Africa to contribute to the continent’s development. She encouraged skilled diaspora professionals to consider AU careers, stressing that the AU offers a unique platform for impactful change.

Youth Inclusion: Building the Leaders of Tomorrow
The AU showcased its commitment to youth empowerment, presenting initiatives such as the AU Academy Program and the Youth Volunteer Program, which provide young people with hands-on experience, leadership training, and skills development. "We are creating pathways for young talent to thrive, equipping them with the tools needed to tackle Africa’s challenges and become tomorrow’s leaders," explained Director Tandu.

A Commitment to Representation and Diversity
The session reaffirmed the AU’s dedication to bridging the representation gap by actively attracting talent from underrepresented member states. By engaging the diaspora and promoting diversity, the AU is ensuring that its institutions reflect the full spectrum of Africa’s voices, driving unity, inclusivity, and sustainable development.

The AU is calling on talented professionals and youth to join its mission—shaping Africa’s future together.
