Addis Ababa, 23 July 2024: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat warmly congratulates President Paul Kagame upon his brilliant re-election as Head of state following the announcement of the official presidential and legislative election results by the Rwandan National Elections Commission on 22 July 2024.

The Chairperson also commends the Government and the National Elections Commission for the successful organization and conduct of the elections judged to be peaceful, transparent, free and fair by both national and international observers, including the joint African Union/COMESA Election Observation Mission.

The Chairperson particularly commends the Rwandan Government for the self-financing of the entire electoral process which is a further illustration of the strong national ownership and commitment to the country's democratic and governance credentials.

The Chairperson further commends the People of the Republic of Rwanda for exercising the democratic right to vote for the leaders of their choice in an exemplary peaceful and calm manner.
