Theme: Fostering Resilient and Inclusive Infrastructure for Africa’s Sustainable Growth: Leveraging Transformative Financing and Regional Integration

      When:            25 - 29 November 2024

Where: African Union Headquarters, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Why:  PIDA Week stands as a premier event focused on accelerating the implementation of the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA), the African Union’s strategic framework for enhancing the continent's physical integration. Championing this initiative are the African Union Commission (AUC), the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), the African Development Bank (AfDB), and the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). Over the years, PIDA has achieved impressive and tangible results, prioritizing regional infrastructure projects in transport, energy, water, and ICT sectors to foster robust interconnectivity across Africa. Launched in 2012 during the 18th Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, PIDA is a long-term initiative set to run through 2040, poised to significantly transform the continent’s infrastructure landscape.

Founded in 2015, PIDA Week has evolved into a crucial platform for stakeholders to drive the continent’s infrastructure agenda forward. PIDA Week 2024 is poised to be a landmark event, dedicated to showcasing the remarkable progress and successes achieved across the and its diverse stakeholders. This gathering will serve as a platform to strengthen multilateral cooperation, bringing together various entities committed to the preparation and implementation of vital infrastructure projects across the continent.

At the heart of the discussions will be a strong advocacy for increased financing and the exploration of innovative strategies that promote sustainable infrastructure. By focusing on sustainable solutions, PIDA Week aims also to advance Africa's green economy, with in depth dialogues by delving into key sub-themes such as:

      • Advancing the Green Economy through Infrastructure Development
      • Enabling Infrastructure through Policy and Regulatory Frameworks
      • Digital Infrastructure for Africa's Future
      • Innovative Financial Instruments and Mechanisms for Sustainable Infrastructure
      • Empowering Civil Society for Sustainable and Inclusive Infrastructure Development

Who: The African Union Development Agency-NEPAD(AUDA-NEPAD) in collaboration with the African Union and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.

Participants: The week unites over 1,000 diverse stakeholders, fostering a vibrant platform for discussion, insight sharing, product exhibitions, and collaboration. Participants include representatives from African governments, Regional Economic Communities (RECs), Pan-African institutions, international finance institutions, development partners, investors, the private sector, civil society, and infrastructure developers, all coming together to network and exchange valuable experiences.

Format: PIDA Week 2024 will be an in-person event, featuring live-streamed opening, plenary and closing sessions. Throughout the week, attendees can participate in plenary sessions and a variety of parallel sessions organized around different subthemes. For a detailed program, click here.
