The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, received in audience H.E. Ambassador Darren Welch of the United Kingdom to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union.

Discussions focused on peace and security issues across the continent, including the situation in the Horn of Africa, the implementation of the peace agreement in eastern DRC following the signing of the ceasefire framework, and funding mechanisms for the African Union Support Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM). to discuss

Both parties agreed on the importance of the AU Commission mobilizing all necessary political efforts to ensure the successful implementation of AUSSOM.

Ambassador Welch briefed the Chairperson on the United Kingdom's initiatives related to Africa, particularly regarding the aforementioned issues and emphasized the importance of strengthening the AU to advance Africa’s aspirations for lasting peace and development.
