Special Envoys of the AUC Chairperson

The Chairperson of the AUC appoints High Representatives, Special Envoys and Special Representatives to support key initiatives championed by the AU through the office of the Chairperson of the AUC

Special Envoys

• Special Envoy for Women, Peace and Security: Bineta Diop, Senegal (appointed by the Chairperson of the Commission in January 2014)
• Special Envoy for Western Sahara: Joaquim Alberto Chissano, Mozambique (appointed by the Peace and Security Council in June 2014)
• Special Envoy of the African Union for Youth: Chido Cleopatra Mpemba, Zimbabwe (appointed by the Chairperson of the Commission in November 2021)
• Special Envoy to lead mediation talks between Sudan and Ethiopia regarding border conflict: Mohamed El-Hacen Ould Lebatt, Mauritania (appointed by the Chairperson of the Commission in February 2021)
