The eighth Steering Committee meeting of the AU-PATTEC was held on 28th September 2019 at the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Conference Centre back to back with the 35th ISCTRC and 18th PATTEC Coordinators’ meeting. The key PATTEC Steering Committee members shown in Appendix 2 were present and the agenda was fully discussed. The Steering Committee meeting was chaired by Professor Ahmed Elsawalhy, Director of AU-IBAR on behalf of H.E. Amb. Josefa L.C. Sacko, Commissioner for Rural Economy and Agriculture. In her opening statement, she welcomed the members to the meeting and extended a special welcome to the new members.

The Steering Committee members adopted the report of the International Scientific Council for Trypanosomiasis Research and Control (ISCTRC) and the 18th PATTEC Coordinators conference. They discussed at length issues relating to need of documentation of success stories of T&T interventions, data collection, high level advocacy and formulation of project proposals to enhance resource mobilisation, strengthening the capacity of the PATTEC Coordination office in view of the increasing demands from Tsetse and Trypanosomiasis (T&T) affected countries and strengthening regional coordination mechanisms for effective T&T management.
