Introduction
The India–Africa Forum Summit is the highest institutional platform for cooperation between India and African countries under the leadership of the African Union. Established in 2008, the Summit aims to strengthen political dialogue, economic cooperation, trade, investment, technology transfer, capacity building and people-to-people relations between India and Africa.
The Summit reflects a shared commitment to South–South cooperation, inclusive development, multilateralism and sustainable partnerships. Over the years, it has become a major diplomatic and economic platform bringing together Heads of State, Ministers, business leaders, development institutions, youth and civil society representatives from both regions.
About the India–Africa Forum Summit
The India–Africa Forum Summit (IAFS) is the highest institutional platform for dialogue and cooperation between India and African countries, held under the leadership of the African Union. The first three Summits were held in New Delhi (2008 and 2015) and Addis Ababa (2011), resulting in important outcomes such as the Delhi Declaration and the Africa–India Framework for Cooperation. These Summits established priority areas of collaboration including trade and investment, agriculture, energy, infrastructure, education, health, peace and security, and capacity building.
Although the fourth Summit was initially expected earlier, it was delayed due to global circumstances, including the COVID-19 pandemic and scheduling adjustments by both partners. After extensive consultations between the African Union and the Government of India, the 4th India–Africa Forum Summit will now be held on 31 May 2026 in New Delhi, India, marking a significant milestone after 11 years since the last Summit.
This edition aims to further deepen the strategic partnership between India and Africa, reinforce South–South cooperation, and align joint priorities with Agenda 2063 and global development frameworks. It also reflects the shared commitment of both partners to work together as equals in addressing global challenges and promoting inclusive and sustainable development.
Alongside the India–Africa Forum Summit, a Business Dialogue and Exhibition Forum will also be organized, bringing together private sector leaders, investors, entrepreneurs, startups, and financial institutions. This platform will provide an opportunity for high-level business dialogue, networking, and showcasing of products, innovations, and investment opportunities.

New Delhi, India - 2008
The first edition was held in New Delhi from 4–8 April 2008. It marked the launch of the India–Africa strategic partnership framework and resulted in the adoption of the Delhi Declaration and the India–Africa Framework for Cooperation.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - 2011
The second edition was held in Addis Ababa in May 2011. Leaders focused on expanding cooperation in trade, infrastructure, human resource development, agriculture and peace and security.

“Reinvigorated Partnership – Shared Vision” This edition was historic because all African countries were invited, making it one of India’s largest diplomatic gatherings with African leaders.
