AfCFTA Agreement secures minimum threshold of 22 ratification as Sierra Leone and the Saharawi Republic deposit instruments
Two deposits of the instruments of ratification for the African Continental Free Trade Area made on 29th April meet the minimum threshold of ratifications required under Article 23 of the AfCFTA Agreement for it to enter into force thirty days after deposit of the twenty second deposit made by the Saharawi Republic. The AfCFTA Agreement will in this regard enter into force on 30th May, 2019.

New 1 Million by 2021 initiative aims to create opportunities for millions of African youth
The 1 Million By 2021 Initiative aims to concretely reach millions of African youth from across the continent with opportunities and interventions in the key areas of Employment, Entrepreneurship, Education and Engagement (4E’s), which will accelerate socioeconomic development on the continent. The initiative launch brought together over 400 young people from across the continent to co-create solutions on the 4Es.
8th joint meeting of the PRC and the AUC aims to cement relationship
The members of the PRC and the African Union Commission started their 8th Joint Retreat in Tunis on 29th April, in line with the African Union’s (AU) efforts to ensure that member states are fully involved in its work and to enhance the collaboration between two organs of the African Union. Modernisation of the PAN AFRICAN veterinary vaccine center set to enhance operations
The establishment of a new laboratory for AU-PANVAC to be based in Debre-Zeit, Ethiopia, is expected to consolidate all the activities of the centre at one site and ensure that the activities are implemented according to best practices and in a safe and secure manner. The new facility will include the Continental Vaccine Bank, Quality Control Unit, Biological Reagent Production facility and a Training Centre amongst others.
AU-PANVAC provides international independent quality control of all vaccines used in Africa also has the mandate to produce and distribute essential biological reagents for the surveillance and diagnosis of animal diseases.
