Addis Ababa – Ethiopia. January 17, 2020. HE Mr Kwesi Quartey, the Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission received HE Amb. Asghar Ali Golo, Pakistani Ambassador to the African Union today at the Commission.
HE Quartey welcomed Amb. Golo and commended the people and government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for the resilience they have shown over the years and continue to show in the face of the extreme difficulties they have encountered
HE Golo thanked H.E Mr Quartey for making time to receive him and briefed him on major developments taking place in Pakistan, such the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) which will reduce the time of transporting of goods from China to Africa from over Twenty (20) days to three (3) days.
HE Amb. Golo expressed his country's keen desire to deepen its relationship with the African Union and indeed the whole of Africa. In particular, he stressed on enhancing people to people relations, initiate technical cooperation in the area of counter-terrorism and peacekeeping. He also used the occasion to call on the African Union to intervene in the situation in Cashmere stating that the AU has a very good relationship with both India and Pakistan.
HE Mr Kwesi Quartey wished Amb. Golo success in this new endeavour and assured him of the support of the Commission.d assured the Commission of the full participation of HE the President of Algeria in the upcoming AU Summit in February.
HE Mr Quartey after welcoming the Ambassador back to Addis Ababa extolled the Pan African credentials of Algeria and commended the government and people for the matured and exemplary manner they have handled their recent challenges. He made particular, mention of the various demonstrations that the country has witnessed that was conduct peacefully.
The Deputy Chairperson as wished the Amb. Salah Francis Elhamdi a successful tour of duty while offering him his unreserved cooperation.
