iDove – Interfaith Dialogue on Violent Extremism

When?   9., 10., 12., 16., 19 November 2020

Where?   Online - Virtual Forum

What is iDove?

The iDove initiative was jointly launched by the African Union Commission’s Directorate of Citizens and Diaspora Organizations (AUC-CIDO) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in February 2017 to highlight the importance of the soft power of religion in preventing violent extremism (PVE) through innovative, youth-led approaches. By building on existing initiatives and supporting young people’s engagement and ideas in both Europe and Africa, iDove strives to develop non-violent approaches to problem solving that strengthen social cohesion and to create a forum for exchange and mutual learning.

The annual iDove Intercontinental Youth Forums provides a valuable platform for young activists, academics, creatives & policy makers from all over Africa, Asia and Europe to share experiences, ideas and knowledge on constructive strategies to prevent violent extremism. Due to the lasting COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s iDove Intercontinental Youth Forum will be held online.

What is the forum all about?

The Fourth iDove Intercontinental Youth Forum (IYF) will focus on practical and innovative solutions to challenges that you experience in your daily work in the field while implementing PVE initiatives – with particular focus on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The virtual format of the 4th iDove IYF presents the opportunity to virtually work together towards solutions in a creative way. iDove presents: a PV E-Hackathon. The word hackathon is a combination of the words "hack" and "marathon" where hack stands for experimental, creative problem- solving with a playful approach and marathon stands for the duration of the event.  Participants of the 4th iDove IYF will work in small groups/ break-out sessions to encourage creative thinking, brainstorming, foster team-building and problem-solving that will lead to tackle real life challenges the participants are facing in their daily PVE work.
