Background:

This event aims to highlight current and emerging challenges for the African health sector, as well as best practises, policy recommendations, success stories, home-grown solutions, and opportunities for collaboration among African countries. Panels, expert Q&As and fireside chats will address topics such as the need for strong political will during health crises, investing in local manufacturing of drugs and vaccines, financing health care in a post-COVID world, delivering health services in fragile and post-conflict settings, and building resilient health systems to withstand future health emergencies.

Objectives

  • Observe Africa CDC’s 5th year of establishment and its key role as a lead public health agency in improving outbreak response on the African Continent
  • Share lessons learnt from Africa CDC as well as other partners and participants, focusing on main disease outbreaks on the continent (e.g., COVID-19, Ebola, other disease outbreaks)
  • Introduce Africa CDC’s second round Strategic Plan to harness assets to support Africa CDC’s mission to safeguard the continent
  • Spark meaningful dialogue that emphasises the need to rebuild Africa’s health systems in a resilient manner
  • Provide a platform for leaders to recommit to their health priorities and initiate plans to build more resilient and responsive health systems
  • Discuss investment opportunities in the African healthcare sector for global, regional, and local partners - including international cooperation and partnerships in infrastructure development, human capital development, and R&D capacity-building
