AU-SAFGRAD in collaboration of the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco just concluded a three-day meeting in Rabat, kingdom of Morocco. The meeting, which was held 6-8 June 2023, gathered the African Members of the two Intergovernmental Working Group (IWG) on Drought and on Mid Term Evaluation of the UNCCD Strategic Framework 2018-2030. The Two IWGs were established as key decisions taken in UNCCD COP15 that took place in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire in 2022.

The Republic of South Sudan has deposited instruments of ratification to the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa, known as the Maputo Protocol, becoming the 44th Member State of the African Union (AU) to ratify the Treaty.

The African Union Peace Fund is in the final stages of operationalization. The funds are set to be utilized for the first time in 2023 on several programmes including interventions in the Sudan crisis, projects in the East African Community (EAC) and the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
