ECOSOCC hosts training to equip CSOs with advocacy tools to influence peace and security policy across Africa

The African Union’s Economic, Social, and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) has concluded a three-day training session in Accra, Ghana, aimed at equipping Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) with advocacy techniques and strategic policy engagement within the Conflict Management Cycle. This initiative, part of the EU-APSA IV Programme, reflects growing momentum to ensure civil society’s structured involvement in African Union peace and security policy formulation and implementation.

The Chairperson of the AU Commission, H.E. @ymahmoudali, received H.E. Mr. Régis Onanga Ndiaye, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Gabon. Commending Gabon's peaceful transition to constitutional order; through inclusive dialogue, a national referendum, & credible elections that was observed by the AU, the Chairperson welcomed the lifting of the suspension of Gabon today by the AU Peace and Security Council (PSC) & affirmed Gabon's vital role in continental governance & within AU institutions.

The Envoy reaffirmed his commitment to working in close alignment with the AU High-Level Panel on Sudan. Both the Chairperson & Ambassador Korbandy reiterated their call for an immediate cessation of hostilities & underscored their shared commitment to a Sudanese-led & Sudanese-owned political process aimed at restoring constitutional order & achieving lasting peace.

The Chairperson of the AU Commission H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf received H.E. Jens Hanefeld, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Ethiopia & Permanent Observer to the AU. The Ambassador reaffirmed Germany's commitment to supporting the implementation of the AfCFTA, recognising it as a key driver of Africa’s economic integration & development.

The Chairperson expressed appreciation for Germany’s longstanding partnership with Africa, including its vital contributions to peacekeeping, preventive diplomacy, and institutional support to the AUC.
