Addis Ababa, 19 October 2018: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, congratulates President Paul Kagame of Rwanda for appointing a gender parity Government. This reshuffle follows the election of former Minister of Foreign Affairs Louise Mushikwabo as Secretary-General of the International Organization of La Francophonie.

17 October, 2018, Addis Ababa: A new report by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) shows that the global trend towards smaller families is a reflection of people making reproductive choices to have as few or as many children as they want, when they want. The “State of World Population 2018” report, in various case studies globally, demonstrates that when people lack choice, it can have a long-term impact on fertility rates, often making them higher or lower, than what most people desire.

03 – 05 October 2018 – Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The African Union Citizens and Diaspora Directorate (AUC-CIDO) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH organized the 2nd Intercontinental Youth Forum in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The event brought together 39 youth from 27 countries across Africa and Europe for three days of fruitful discussions and interactive sessions.

Addis Ababa, 17 October 2018: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, congratulates Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia for appointing a cabinet marked by gender parity, with 10 women and 10 men. Chairperson Faki looks forward to other similar bold initiatives on the continent, as part of Agenda 2063. Yesterday’s decision by the Prime Minister sets a major milestone in Africa’s efforts towards gender equality and women’s empowerment, in particular women’s access to high level political decision-making positions.

Addis Ababa, 16th October 2018: The African Union Commission, together with a number of partnering organisations, holds the first continent-wide African Forum on Cybercrime from 16 to 18 October 2018 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia bringing together more than 250 delegates from across the continent.
In an increasingly digitalised world, more and more crimes either take place in cyberspace or may involve evidence in electronic form. Cybercrime is a borderless and global phenomenon and requires that governments be ready to cooperate and protect their citizens’ rights also in cyberspace.
