World Malaria Day: Zero Malaria Starts With Me

Today, the African Union Commission joins the world to celebrate the World Malaria Day by declaring the theme of the day: “Zero Malaria Starts with Me” and committing to step up the fight to end this deadly disease.

The theme is inspired by a continental campaign called Zero Malaria Starts With Me led by the Commission in partnership with the RBM Partnership to End Malaria to strengthen the fight against malaria through increased and sustained investment and political will in Africa. The Campaign is active in 14 AU Member States.

Teleconference Meeting of F15 and Task Force African Ministers of Finance

A teleconference session of African Ministers of Finance of F15 and the Task Force Ministers was convened on April 09, 2020 to reflect and combine efforts in providing a collective and coordinated response to the pandemic crisis.

The following Member States, Members of F15 and Task Force, took part in the teleconference: Cameroon, Chad, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Egypt, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda and South Africa. The teleconference was chaired by H.E. M. Tahir Hamid Nguilin, Minister of Finance and Budget of the Republic of Chad.

African Union and Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention launch Partnership to Accelerate COVID-19 Testing: Trace, Test and Track

The African Union Commission and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) have launched a new initiative, the Partnership to Accelerate COVID-19 Testing (PACT): Trace, Test & Track (CDC-T3). The partnership is to facilitate implementation of the Africa Joint Continental Strategy for COVID-19, endorsed by African Ministers of Health on 22 February 2020 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and approved by the Bureau of the Assembly of the African Union Heads of State and Government on 26 March 2020.

Weekly Press Briefing on Coronavirus Disease Outbreak

WHAT: The novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has spread to almost all countries and claimed more than 150,000 lives worldwide. Nearly 25,000 cases have been reported in 52 African countries, with over 1000 deaths. Africa CDC is supporting African Union Member States in responding to the outbreak. This briefing will provide updated information from Member States and new actions taken by Africa CDC and other partners in respond to the pandemic.

Gabon Republic signs Treaty for the Establishment of the African Medicine Agency (AMA)

The Republic of Gabon on 20th April 2020, signed the Treaty for the establishment of the African Medicine Agency (AMA) at the African Union (AU) headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, bringing the number of AU Member countries that have signed the AMA Treaty to sixteen.

The signing ceremony organized by the Office of the Legal Counsel, took place between the AU Commissioner for Social Affairs, H.E Amira Elfadil Mohammed Elfadil and the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Gabon Republic to the AU, H.E Mr. Hermann IMMONGAULT.

Chinese Ambassador Meets the Deputy Chairperson over the Attack on Africans in China

Following the reported incidents of brutalities and related injuries allegedly inflicted on Africans in Guangdong province in the People Republic of China, the Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, HE Mr. Kwesi Quartey invited the Chinese Ambassador to the African Union, H.E. Amb. Liu Yuxi, to the Commission today for a discussion on how the matter would be resolved.

HE Mr Kwesi Quartey informed Amb. Yuxi that given the closeness of the relations between China and Africa, the reported incidences were clearly unacceptable.
