Africans must be the architects of their own prosperity and the peaceful Africa we all want - AUC Chairperson

Addis Ababa, 30 May 2013 – The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, today, Thursday 30 May 2013, received in audience at the African Union (AU) headquarters, Mr. Rachid Benlounes, newly accredited Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to the African Union. Ambassador Benlounes presented his letter of credence to the AUC Chairperson.

Dr Dlamini Zuma commended Algeria for its engagement in the advancement of the African Union, the renaissance of Africa and the welfare of African citizens. To this effect, the AUC Chairperson expressed her gratitude and on behalf of the AU to the Algerian Government for its great commitment to the organisation, which, she said should serve as a good example for other countries.

Referring to the Golden Jubilee celebration, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma explained that this historical moment provides Africans with an opportunity to crystallize the vision of Panafricanism and the African Renaissance.

“The African Union has to inspire all our citizens and together, we should seize the opportunity to implement and strengthen unity, in order to realize the dependency of our people and deliver our own agenda”, said the AUC Chairperson. She added that, “Africans must be the architects of their own prosperity and the peaceful Africa we all want”.

Ambassador Rachid Benlounes underscored the willingness of his country to constantly work with efficiency to crystallize the AU shared vision and achieve its objectives. He reiterated the commitment of the leadership of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to work hand in hand with the AU Commission and Member States to strengthen the African Union and enhance the joint Pan African projects, for the benefit of the African people as well as the stability and the sustainable development of the entire continent.
