African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights begins 43rd Ordinary Session on 31 October

Arusha, 28 October, 2016: The African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (AfCHPR) will hold its 43rd Ordinary Session from 31 October to 18 November 2016 at its seat in Arusha, the United Republic of Tanzania.

 

The Judges, among others, will examine about 70 applications and four Requests for Advisory Opinion.

 

The Judges will also hold the Seventh Extra-Ordinary Session from 28 November to 2 December.

 

NOTES FOR EDITORS:

  1. The Court is composed of eleven judges, nationals of Member States of the African Union elected in their individual capacity.
  2. The Court meets four times a year in Ordinary Sessions and may hold Extra-Ordinary Sessions.
  3. The Court has received 119 applications as at 1 October, 2016. It has finalized 32 applications and 87 are pending.
