African Union Workshop on Political Parties Engagement Programme opens in Accra, Ghana

Addis Ababa, 14 June 2018: The Department of Political Affairs (DPA) of the African Union Commission (AUC) has begun a two-day African Union Workshop on Political Parties Engagement Programme in Accra, Ghana.

The workshop formally introduces the DPA’s Political Parties Engagement Programme to stakeholders with a view to solicit inputs on the draft guidelines and key focus areas of engagement with political parties in Africa. The workshop is expected to, among others, (a) review and validate the guidelines, as well as identify immediate priority areas; (b) identify programs and activities for engaging political parties; (c) and enhance cooperation and partnership between the AUC and other key stakeholders on the Political Parties Engagement Programme.

The workshop brings together participants from, the DPA, Regional Economic Communities (RECs), national and international institutions with experience on political parties engagement of one form or the other, thinks tanks and the academia,

In his opening remarks Dr Khabele Matlosa, Director of Political Affairs, presented the contextual and conceptual background to the DPA’s Political Parties Engagement Programme.

The Workshop ends on Friday, 15 June 2018.
