WHO: All States Parties, Organs of the African Union, National Human Rights Institutions,          International Organizations, Non-Governmental Organizations, the Media and other members           of the general public are invited to attend.

The Commission will focus on the following Session activities:

(i)             Assessment of the Human Rights Situation in Africa;

(ii)            Consideration of Reports of States on their implementation of the African Charter;

(iii)           Consideration of Applications for Affiliate Status from NHRIs and for Observer Status from NGOs;

(iv)           Panel Discussions and Launches on topical human rights issues;

(v)            Consideration of Communications (complaints filed with the African Commission on alleged violations of human rights).

The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights is the premier human rights body of the African Union that is established under the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights (African Charter), the founding treaty of the African Human Rights system, for the promotion and protection of human rights in Africa.

 

Pursuant to Article 31 of the African Charter, the ACHPR is composed of eleven members elected from amongst African personalities of highest competence in matters of human and peoples’ rights and serve in their personal capacity. The ACHPR meets four times a year, in Ordinary Sessions and Extra-Ordinary Sessions.
